Sunday Scribblings...on Monday

Creedy: Die! Die! Why won't you die?... Why won't you die?
V: Beneath this mask there is more than flesh. Beneath this mask there is an idea, Mr. Creedy, and ideas are bulletproof.

(excerpt from V for Vendetta)

Ideas are not only bulletproof, they're the most dangerous thing in the world. All change, all growth, all destruction, everything beautiful and grotesque in this world began with a single idea. Ideas are seeds. Within each one is a tremendous potential for a belief, and that is where the real danger lies. A belief can be well reasoned or pure instinctual feeling. A belief is what essentially defines an individual. People can and do ignore facts, but a real belief is the core truth of a human.

This goes beyond Descarte's statement, "I think, therefore I am." We exist on many levels, physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, levels in dimensions we're not even capable of imagining. It takes more than the mental capacity for thought and reasoning to define existence. Choosing our own truth is when we establish ourselves as individuals and our first claim of any power in this world.

For this reason alone, thinking is one of the most important things that a person can do for themselves. Whatever you think, let it be your own ideas. Don't just mindlessly accept what is fed you from the media, from the government, from history, from literature, from religion. Question til you think you know some answers and then question again. Educate yourself. Get to know yourself. Think about what you truly like, what you love, and what you will not tolerate. Do this everyday. Do this so often, it feels like a reflex action. Do it until what you believe is what you know and what you live. This is the most dangerous and exciting life one can lead.
