If I were poetry,
I would shout the secrets
of your soul to the world,
and you would be grateful
that the world knew
at last.
I would strip the dullness
from your skin and eyes
and throw you naked and joyful
into gardens and jungles.
I would clasp you as you plunged
through waterfalls
and meet you as your toes
touched the pebbled river floor.
I would break your heart
with longing and desire,
fill it with every dream
you feared to have
and hold you
til the trembling stilled.
If I were poetry
I could fill you completely
and you would fall
and recognize me
for what I am ...
the lover kneeling at the feet of life.
